Tuesday Tunes launches on Arts and Media

Arts and Media launches a new weekly column, the Tuesday Tunes, despite Tuesday already being a weekly mass media release day. Checkout the featured five every Tuesday at 11am.

We’re sporting the luck of the Irish this week in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.

Callanach – “Irish Pubs”

Is there is something more Irish than “goin’ round down to the pub?” These guys sing a playful ditty to their favorite pub towns that is so infectious you will be singing the chorus before the song ends.

The Killdares – “Lepreconundrum”

We admit we don’t know much about the mysterious Killdares but the witty song name and lovely, folksy melody has us hooked.

The Pogues and The Dubliners – “The Irish Rover”

A classic Irish song played together by two generations of musicians is St. Patrick’s Day in a song. The Catholic missionary traveled throughout all of Ireland describing he Holy Trinity as one-in-three using the wild clover.

Dropkick Murphys – “Finnegan’s Wake”

Another classic Irish song, played here with punk rock twist, made famous by 60s pop icons The Clancy Brothers. While not actually Irish this American band hail from the ‘Westmost Irish province,’ also known as Boston, Massachusetts. May the road rise up to meet you and the wind be at your back.

Sinead O’Connor and The Chieftains – “Foggy Dew”

Irish icon Sinéad O’Connor and pub heroes The Chieftains performed this burning song together for the soundtrack of “The Wind that Shakes the Barley” about the Irish Resistance.

Would you rather had us include Enya, The Corrs, Gaelic Storm, Flogging Molly, Once, or U2? Tell us your favorite Irish bands in the comments below.
