Mississippi St. Lecture Series: Jessica Hische
Mississippi State Univerity Associate Professor Jude Landry tied for the Best in Offset category win. I kept telling myself that this poster looked familiar. Its on French’s blog for being on Hot Fudge, and the 2010 Print Regional Design Annual featured another of Landry’s posters.
Despite my flair for bright, bold colors I really love this print. The rich, dark brown is a great choice for contrasting the silver ink used in the screenprinting. The matallic sheen really pops off the page. And hey, it’s kind of hard to go wrong with French Paper.
It’s not just the design that is so striking, but the concept. Mississippi St. had the honor of hosting a lecture by Jessica Hische (you lucky dogs), the writer/designer/letterpress queen behind The Daily Dropcap.
It seems only fitting to have a crazy-cool type illustration as the featured element for the promotional poster, thus an elaborate ‘J’ for Jessica. Could you ever use such a font anywhere else? Probably not, but that’s not the point is it?
The the J is the so large, and has such great air space and the information lettering is set in a small sans-serif the result is a beautiful ‘silver screen’ piece of art.
