They skate at Zamora Shrine Temple in Irondale as (skater owned and operated) derby club.
WHY SHOULD YOU KNOW THEM
These girls really know how to get a crowd going with high speed bouts determined to get their teammates to the front of the pack to score points. The club has gotten so big that the Tragic City Rollers had to form a B-Team.
MOVE YOU SHOULD KNOW
Falling. There are three different falls appropriate for derbying: one knee fall, two knee fall and the baseball slide.
MOST OUTRAGEOUS FACT
“When you’re skating you’re adrenaline is going so strong, but the nice thing though is when its all said and done you can say ‘WOW!’ That was a really great hit!’ and we respect each other for our athleticism.”
FUN FACTS
The Tragic City Roller girls support a variety of local charities including Rape Response, Race for the Cure and Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
NEXT EVENT
There will be a double header tomorrow at Zamora. Doors open at 4 in time for the 5 p.m. B Team bout and the ‘varsity’ team takes the rink at 7 p.m.
